Martin Kallen Fund: the Story

The Story: a generous board member starts a new way of thinking to allow 100% of the donations in the fundraising campaign to be redistributed to charity organisations rather than to pay for operatioal expenses.

Martin Kallen has been a board member for the United Fund for Belgium for many years. In 1997, he planted the idea of creating an endowment fund and provided the seed money to support his idea. The Martin Kallen Fund was created in 1997 with the unanimous support of the Board. The fund is not meant to be distributed but rather to be capitalized, so that the income that it generates can cover all or part of operational expenses of the organisation.

The Martin Kallen Fund has grown over the years to reach close to €1.5 million and contributions are made every year to help it achieve its critical mass.

The assets of the fund are professionally managed by Lombard Odier under the guidance and the supervision of the Financial Committee of UFB.
